Celtic 2-0 @ 5/1

Reason For Kilmarnock vs Celtic Predictions

  • Kilmarnock are winless in their last seven Premiership games.
  • Celtic have won their last seven away matches in domestic competitions.
  • The Hoops have netted 2.33 goals on the road.
  • Kilmarnock haven’t scored once in their last five games.

Scarcity of goals at Rugby Park

Kilmarnock’s five-game losing streak was finally brought to an end as they thrashed League Two side Queen’s Park 6-0 in the Scottish Cup. Killie had lost four of their previous five defeats by a narrow 1-0 margin.

Granted, four of those five losses were on the road, and Alex Dyer’s men have done considerably better on home turf. Killie have scored a total of 11 goals at home, although they have failed to score in their last two games at Rugby Park.

Moreover, Killie have also been solid at the back, conceding just six times and keeping a clean sheet in 60% of their home games.

Celts in top away form

Celtic also come into this tie after a well-worked win over Championship side Partick Thistle, a game the reigning champions won 2-1, making it seven consecutive wins away from home in domestic competitions.

The Hoops have been noticeably tamer in front of goal in recent months, as they’ve only netted twice in their last two outings, scoring eight times in a couple of games before that: an average of 2.33 goals on the road. Celtic also have the second-best away record in the league, letting in just seven goals, a small average of 0.78.

Hoops to grind out a win

A win for the hosts would give them a huge boost for the coming weeks, especially as they’re still relatively close to the relegation zone. Celtic too need the three points in their quest to retain the title for a ninth time, as failure to do so will see them slip into second place.

However, Killie haven’t won any of their last seven Premiership matches, which is why we’re backing the Hoops to win to nil and extend their winning streak here.

We’re also going to back a 2-1 victory for the visitors, as they’ve netted 2.33 times on the road this season.
