Kilmarnock vs Falkirk Predictions
Falkirk struck late yet again in the first leg of this Scottish Premiership playoff on Thursday. Kilmarnock had the beating of their opponents in the opening stages and confined Falkirk to defending their own half for much of the first half. A quick flurry of spurned chances towards the end of the half was Falkirk’s only contribution to the tie so far. This trend continued after the break, although Falkirk did manage to get a foothold back into the game. Both teams missed some golden opportunities to put themselves in front, but it was left to Will Vaulks to net a 91st minute winner for Falkirk and give the Championship side the edge going into the 2nd leg.
Kilmarnock may not have the greatest quality in the footballing world, but they showed a lot of grit and determination in the first leg of the match. They just couldn’t find a goal, and that will make their injury time loss hurt all the more considering they deserved something from the game.
This defeat made it four games without a win and four defeats in their last six outings, and despite all their determined efforts it’s really no wonder they finished the season second from bottom in the Premiership.
Falkirk finished 2nd in the Scottish Championship, and they have shown spirit and belief that makes you think that they can hold their own in the top flight if they can get there. The second flight side just do not stop moving forward, and this is illustrated perfectly by their injury time winner against Kilmarnock and their 92nd minute winner at home to Hibs in the playoff semi finals.
The victory on Thursday extended Falkirk’s unbeaten streak to eight games, with half of those ending in victory for them. Interestingly, all their failures to win during this run have come away from home, but they have still managed to fight for respectable draws in each one of them.
Away from home Falkirk have drawn their last six matches on the bounce and the scoreline has been 2-2 in each of their last four trips away. They are also on a seven match unbeaten streak on the road, whereas Kilmarnock have won just one of their last eight home games and lost six of them.
Falkirk just seem destined for the top flight at the moment, whereas Kilmarnock’s destiny looked all but sealed as they failed to score time and time again on Thursday. Odds of 6/10 for Falkirk to avoid defeat again on Sunday look good value, and I’m going for another away draw for Falkirk with a 1-1 correct score prediction at 11/2.
