Las Palmas vs Rayo Vallecano Predictions
Overall you’d have to say they’ve made a pretty encouraging start to life at this level and have certainly been competitive in all their matches. That has helped to rest fears that they may go the same way as Cordoba, the last side to come up via the play-offs, who were hopelessly out of their depth at times last season.
Their away games have consisted of a 1-0 defeat at Atleti and a thrilling 3-3 draw last time out away to Celta Vigo. Their only home game so far resulted in a 0-0 draw against Levante but Rayo Vallecano are a different sort of side and are usually attacking wherever they go so it is unlikely to be a similar game to that one.
Rayo will come here desperate for a win to get their season going. They had the joint worst defence last season but still managed to finish 11th thanks to some enterprising play at the other end.
They have started this campaign in a similar way but more so in the sense that they still can’t defend properly. They were reduced to 10 men early in a 3-0 defeat at Celta Vigo in their last away game, which offers them some excuse but it was followed up by a worrying 3-1 home loss to Deportivo La Coruna, which really is the sort of result to set the alarm bells ringing.
It’s perhaps a little too soon for that and they’ll know that they can calm a lot of early season nerves in Vallecas with 3 points here. Las Palmas will feel the same way and both managers will go looking for a win, which they’ll believe they are capable of getting. Therefore it should be fairly open and you can see both teams scoring in the game, something which happened in over 50% of matches involving Rayo away from home last season. You can back it to be the case again here at 8/11.
However the manner of Rayo’s last two defeats coupled with the fact that Las Palmas are usually strong at home and put in their best attacking performance so far last weekend suggests the Gran Canaria outfit may get all the points. They’ve won 22 of their last 29 competitive home games, losing just twice in that time and although this is a higher tier, they will be still be tough to beat at home you sense this year.
They aren’t good enough to run away with this one but a 2-1 home win is within their grasps against an out-of-sorts Rayo Vallecano side and you can back that to be the case at 15/2.
