Las Palmas vs Sevilla Predictions
- Sevilla beat Las Palmas twice in both La Liga meetings last season.
- Las Palmas scored just 33 goals in 38 games last season.
- García Pimienta left Las Palmas to take charge of Sevilla in June.
Quick return for Pimienta
Spain’s La Liga kicks off this week and there are two fixtures on Friday night as Sevilla head to Las Palmas in the later game.
This clash is arguably the standout game in round one due to the fact new Sevilla boss García Pimienta left Las Palmas to head to the Ramon Sanchez Pizjuan over the summer, meaning his first game in charge comes at the home of his former club.
Luis Carrion could prove to be a shrewd appointment in the opposite dugout after some solid work at second tier outfit Oviedo, but the departure of Primienta after an exceptional two-and-a-half year stint in the Canary Islands still comes as a blow for the home side.
Away win has real appeal
Sevilla had the measure of Las Palmas last season, winning both Liga meetings without conceding, and now they have inside knowledge as Primienta knows most of this squad inside out.
Las Palmas ended last season with a seven-game winless run at the Estadio de Gran Canaria and they failed to score in four of those fixtures, so the away win looks a strong play for our main bet.
Given Las Palmas’ struggles for goals in general last year – they managed just 33 in their 38 league games – a 2-0 away win looks a reasonable correct score prediction. Los Nervionenses scored at least twice in each of their final three wins last season and can open up the campaign with a fairly comfortable victory.
