      Leganes vs Alaves Predictions

      • Leganes are 19th in the table and five points from safety after picking up just one point from their last three league games.
      • However, Los Pepineros have been in decent form at home of late, amassing ten points from their last five outings at Butarque.
      • Alaves have won two of their last three league games; however, both of those successes have been at home. Babazorros have won just twice in 12 outings on the road this season, losing eight.

Lega fail to take advantage at Balaidos

Leganes had the chance to move out of the relegation zone with a win at Celta Vigo on Matchday 25, but Los Pepineros came up short despite holding a numerical advantage for over three quarters of the game.

Filip Bradaric’s early dismissal at Balaidos seemingly handed Lega a golden opportunity to bag their first away success of the campaign, and in turn win through a crucial relegation six-pointer which would have seen Javier Aguirre’s men leapfrog Celestes in the La Liga table.

But Lega couldn’t find a way through in Galicia, and resurgent Celta pinched a priceless 1-0 victory through Iago Aspas who netted his ninth goal of the season.

After some decent progress in December and January, Lega have now picked up just a single point from their last three matches and languish 19th in the table, five points adrift of the safety line.

Consequently, this Saturday’s home fixture against Alaves is near enough a must win encounter for the Madrilenians. They will fancy their chances of victory, though, if able to replicate their recent performances at Butarque. Lega have amassed ten points from their last five home outings including a 2-1 success against in-form Real Sociedad earlier this month.

      Alaves almost safe

Back to back 2-1 home victories against Eibar and Athletic Bilbao have given Alaves clear breathing space over the relegation zone, and Babazorros should be feeling much more secure ahead of their trip to Butarque, with eight points now separating themselves from the bottom three.

Asier Garitano’s side were impressive in coming from behind to beat Bilbao last weekend thanks to goals from Lucas Perez and Rodrigo Ely, and spirits should be high in the Alaves camp following consecutive victories over fellow Basque opposition.

Alaves have consistently struggled to find their best game on the road this season though, losing eight of their 12 away matches to date. Their recent derby wins came either side of a 1-0 defeat at 18th placed Mallorca, a result which typifies just how below par Alaves have been on their travels.

So it’s easy to see why Babazorros are around 13/5 for the points here, despite Lega’s current position and poor results throughout the past few weeks.

Lega given the narrow verdict despite poor form

Leganes’ recent results are an obvious concern going into this Saturday’s clash at Butarque, accentuated by the fact that they have failed to score in their last three league outings.

Los Pepineros have been holding their form well at home though, with a 0-3 defeat to Getafe the only real blot on their copybook since early December.

Considering Alaves have lost two thirds of their away matches this season and have consistently failed to back up their strong results at Mendizorroza when on their travels, we’re giving the narrow verdict to Lega this weekend.

The hosts should be driven to try and make up for the crucial ground which they lost at Balaidos last weekend and we’re predicting a 1-0 scoreline. This should be a low scoring affair with four of Leganes’ last five matches producing fewer than 2.5 goals, while five of the last six meetings between the pair have also seen less than 2.5 goals netted.
