Leicester City vs Roma Predictions

  • Seven of Leicester’s last nine fixtures have seen both teams score
  • Both teams have scored in six of Roma’s last nine matches
  • Leicester are unbeaten at the King Power Stadium in Europe this season

Can Leicester cause an upset?

Leicester have been somewhat unpredictable in terms of their results this season, not helped by injuries to the likes of Jamie Vardy, but you can always expect action at both ends of the field.

The Foxes drew 0-0 against Aston Villa at the weekend, but that was only the second time in nine games that they had failed to net, with the other seven fixtures all seeing both teams score.

Both teams have also scored in seven of the last 11 at the King Power Stadium for Brendan Rodgers’ side, who remain unbeaten at home in Europe this season, a run that includes draws with PSV and Napoli.

Roma struggling on the road of late

Plenty of Roma fans will feel they should be playing in a higher competition than the Conference League, but for a club who have not lifted a trophy in 14 years, this is the perfect chance to win some silverware.

Jose Mourinho’s side have struggled defensively of late, keeping just one clean sheet in their last five, while both teams have netted in four of their last five away fixtures.

That form on the road is a touch concerning though, with the Italians registering just one victory during that five game run, losing to Bodo/Glimt in the last round of the Conference League, as well as to Inter Milan in Serie A.

Mourinho has history with Leicester

The legendary manager is somebody who knows Leicester all too well, with his second spell at Chelsea coming to an abrupt end in 2015 after a 2-1 defeat at the King Power Stadium.

Generally speaking though, the former Real Madrid boss has an incredible record against the Foxes, winning eight of his 12 matches and losing just three times, twice of which came during an ill-fated reign at Tottenham.

He also has an exceptionally strong history competition in Europe, winning the Champions League twice, as well as the Europa League in 2016/17, so knows all about winning tough ties on the continent.

The Special One is certainly getting the best out of Tammy Abraham, too. The 24-year-old has 18 goals for Roma this season and has netted two in four Europa Conference League games, so he’s a solid option in the anytime goalscorer market.

Draw on the cards?

It is a cliche, but while two-legged ties cannot be won over the first 90 minutes, they certainly can be lost, so both teams will be desperate to keep things tight going into the return game in Italy.

Stalemates have been fairly commonplace for Leicester in Europe this year, drawing two of their three home Europa League matches and once in the Conference League.

So although a draw is not my initial selection for this game, the price of 9/4 (bet365) for the tie to end all square look pretty inviting.

My main pick though is for both teams to score, as has often been the case when both these teams have played lately, selecting 1-1 as a correct score prediction.

Leicester predicted lineup: Schmeichel; Pereira, Fofana, Evans, Castagne; Maddison, Dewsbury-Hall, Tielemans, Barnes, Albrighton; Vardy

Roma predicted lineup: Rui Patrício; Mancini, Smalling, Ibañez; Karsdorp, Mkhitaryan, Cristante, Zalewski; Pellegrini, Zaniolo, Abraham
