Leicester City vs Manchester City Predictions
- Leicester have lost seven of their last ten matches, including each of their last three while conceding ten goals
- City haven’t scored more than two goals in any of their last 11 visits to the King Power Stadium
- The Foxes have scored in nine of their ten home matches in all competitions this season, while Guardiola’s side have managed just one clean sheet in their last 13 outings
City can edge past tame Foxes
Leicester and Manchester City are in the midst of miserable sequences and there was little festive cheer on Boxing Day with the pair failing to secure win between them.
The Foxes fell to a 3-1 loss at Premier League leaders Liverpool despite opening the scoring at Anfield, while City’s misery continued with a 1-1 draw at home to Everton, and we predict a nervy contest at the King Power Stadium.
It is hard to be bullish about either side given their respective poor form but the prediction is for Pep Guardiola’s ailing champions to win a match in which both teams score.
Manchester City have won eight of their last nine meetings with the Foxes but their form had dipped alarmingly in the last couple of months to leave them 14 points off the pace being set by Liverpool and five points adrift of the top four going into this weekend’s fixtures.
However, Leicester are also in miserable shape and things haven’t looked any better under manager Ruud van Nistelrooy and they have conceded 12 goals across their last four league matches, but it is unlikely the floodgates will open on Sunday.
Sparks unlikely to fly at King Power
Manchester City have a decent record against Leicester but they rarely cut loose at the King Power Stadium, and we predict no more than two goals for the beleaguered visitors on Sunday.
The Citizens have won eight of their last nine league meetings with the Foxes but they haven’t scored more than two goals in any of their last 11 visits to the venue, so a modest margin of victory looks the best bet with a 2-1 outcome looking the best value.
Only twice have they managed two goals at the Leicester base in that sequence and with confidence in the camp so low, backing a narrow away victory looks the best way to go.
The Foxes have scored in nine of their ten home matches in all competitions this season, while Guardiola’s side have managed just one clean sheet in their last 13 outings, so it would be no surprise to see the home side get on the scoresheet.
Silva still has the golden touch
Many of Manchester City’s stars are struggling for form but Bernardo Silva caused Everton plenty of problems in the 1-1 draw at the Etihad Stadium on Boxing Day, and he can back up his goal against the Toffees with a strike at Leicester.
Silva opened the scoring in that match and should have added a second when blazing wide with the goal at his mercy on Thursday.
The Portuguese playmaker has scored just three times this season, but he gets into the kind of positions from which Liverpool’s players flourished in their Boxing Day win over Leicester, so he could get opportunities at the King Power Stadium and we predict that he can finish one off on Sunday evening.
Liverpool’s come-from-behind win featured goals when the Reds found pockets of space out wide and in front of the penalty area, all zones in which Silva operates and thrives, so backing him to bag a goal could pay off once more.
