Levante can seal their La Liga return

Levante and Alaves were difficult to separate in the opening leg of their Segunda Division playoff final last Sunday, but home advantage should prove crucial as the pair chase their La Liga returns in Valencia.

Levante finished third in the regular season, just one point clear of Alaves, but they suffered only six defeats across their 42 games, a record equalled by only promoted Las Palmas.

Javier Calleja’s side won 11 of their 17 home games and they also won 3-0 when entertaining Albacete in the second leg of their playoff semi-final.

Interestingly, Levante won both meetings between the pair during the regular season, prevailing 2-0 on the road in December and repeating that scoreline in the return fixture at home at the end of April.

After knocking out Eibar in their semi-final and drawing in last weekend’s opening leg, Alaves have now suffered just one defeat in 13.

Home advantage could prove crucial

But that reverse did come against Levante and they largely struggled on their travels this season, winning only six of their 21 away matches.

Goals have been harder to come by for Luis Garcia Plaza’s team on their travels and they have fired blanks in five of their last eight away games.

Given under 2.5 goals has landed in 15 of Alaves’ last 17 league matches, goals may be in short supply and correct-score backers should consider another 2-0 win for the hosts.
