Franjiverdes fancied to keep the pressure on

Elche can keep the pressure on Segunda Division leaders Leganes with a win against Levante on Sunday.

Los Franjiverdes will head to Estadio Ciudad de Valencia in search of their fifth consecutive league victory and one that would virtually eliminate one of their direct rivals in the fight for promotion.

Coach Sebastian Beccacece’s options will be boosted by the returns of defensive duo Pedro Bigas and Mario Gaspar from injury, but winger Nico Fernandez is out due to suspension.

Elche have become a clean-sheet machine

With seven-goal top scorer Oscar Plano still a couple of weeks away from returning from injury, Fernandez was deployed as a centre forward in last weekend’s 3-2 home win over Albacete.

Elche have become very hard to break down during Plano’s absence, keeping eight clean sheets in their last 10 games, and that approach could make it very tough for a lacklustre Levante side to score.

The home side have failed to score in three of their last four matches at Estadio Ciudad de Valencia and were second-best to second-bottom Andorra in most of the statistics from their recent 0-0 home draw. Backing the visitors to win this without conceding looks the best way to go with a 1-0 final scoreline, as the last two Elche away results have been, the most attractive option in correct score markets.
