If the Imps are to accomplish this aim then they are going to have to see off a Newport County side who have already proven themselves to be fearless against the division’s leading sides this season.

Lincoln City are just a point ahead of title rivals MK Dons and they will know that they cannot afford any slip ups as they bid to win promotion to England’s third tier and go up as champions. Sixth-placed Newport County could move to within six points of table-topping Lincoln City if they can pick up a win at Sincil Bank. A 4-0 victory over Wrexham in the FA Cup set Newport County up for the visit of then League Two leaders MK Dons to Rodney Parade, but their momentum was stunted as the clash was postponed due to the bad weather. The Welshmen may not have the eyes of the footballing world on them but they should not be underestimated in this clash as they have frequently upset the odds and claimed victories when most people had written them off.

The visitors may be coming into this match on the back of an extended rest, but that time off the pitch can sometimes take players away from their top form.
