Liverpool vs Bologna Predictions
- Bologna have won just one of their last nine games
- Liverpool have won eight of their nine matches this season
- Eight of the Reds’ last nine European matches have featured at least three goals
Reds riding on the crest of a wave
Liverpool have already seen off one Serie A team in this season’s Champions League having beaten AC Milan 3-1 at the San Siro and they should be able to beat Bologna with a minimum of fuss on Wednesday.
Arne Slot’s name has proved quite apt as the new Reds manager has eased into the Anfield hotseat vacated by Jurgen Klopp and they sit at the top of the Premier League with a 1-0 home defeat to Nottingham Forest the only slip-up of the campaign.
This looks a really tough game for their Italian opponents, who finished fifth in Serie A last season despite winning just 18 of their 38 matches.
Claiming victories has been an issue again this term with just one posted in their six league games and they were held to a goalless draw to Shakhtar Donetsk in their Champions League opener.
They may not be able to cope with a Liverpool team who have scored at least twice in eight of their last 11 games at Anfield, and with the Reds further motivated by the need to avoid a repeat of last season’s 3-0 home loss to Europa League winners Atalanta, they should not take the challenge lightly.
Bologna unlikely to match last term’s achievements
Liverpool’s European games tend to feature plenty of goals – their 1-0 win at Atalanta after their shocking loss has been the only occasion in their last nine European games when there were fewer than three goals.
And this one looks set to follow that pattern as early indications suggest Bologna will struggle to make a similar impression this term as they did last season and they may not pose much of a goal threat, so correct-score punters may be interested in a 3-0 home success.
Diaz has had a fine start to the season
One player to keep an eye out for is Liverpool’s Luis Diaz as the Colombian has emerged from Mo Salah’s shadow this season and has had an excellent start to the campaign.
Diaz has found the net five times in the Premier League this term already and he should be desperate to make his Champions League mark on Wednesday after being introduced only as a substitute at the San Siro.
He was eased into action shortly after returning from international duty in South America on that occasion, so he should be fresher and could prove a real threat.
