Liverpool vs FC Porto Predictions

  • Liverpool have already qualified as group winners and are expected to rotate their squad.
  • Porto know a win on Wednesday may be enough to see them finish second.
  • Porto have lost just one of their 10 away games in all competitions.
  • Liverpool have failed to win two of their last four games at Anfield.

Porto visit a chance to rotate for Reds

Liverpool have already qualified for the Champions League last 16 as Group B winners ahead of the visit of Porto on Wednesday so expect Reds boss Jurgen Klopp to make wholesale changes to his side.

The visitors sit second in the group and know a win could be enough to book their own place in the knockout stages depending on the result of the game between Atletico Madrid and AC Milan.

With Porto in need of a result and Liverpool likely to rest their star men, the Portuguese outfit can get a result at Anfield and an away win or draw in the double chance market has real appeal.

Klopp to make most of chance to rest

Liverpool are four points off the pace in the Premier League and that will now be their main focus until the Champions League knockout stages begin. It would be a big shock to see the likes of Mohamed Salah, Sadio Mane, Diogo Jota, Virgil van Dijk and others in the starting line-up on Wednesday – and that gives Porto a real chance to get a result on Merseyside.

The Portuguese league leaders were outclassed in the reverse fixture as they slipped to a 5-1 loss but they should fare better against a much-changed Liverpool line-up on Wednesday. Klopp has used the EFL Cup to rest players already this season and his rotated sides have still managed to win those games, so backing Porto to win here would still be a brave call but as they have lost just two of their 18 games in all competitions this season backing the visitors in the double chance market makes sense.

Goals for both sides has a chance

Klopp’s ‘weakened’ teams have still managed five goals in two EFL Cup games this season so there is a good chance we’ll see both teams score in this match-up.

Porto have won four of their last six away games (D1, L1) and both teams have scored in four of those matches. Given the fact this is basically a dead-rubber tie for Liverpool and the visitors know a win will, at the very least, leave them in pole position for the second qualifying spot in the group I’m going to be bolder with my correct score bet and back Porto to claim a 2-1 victory at Anfield.
