Bristol City 2-1

Reason for tip

Bristol City have beaten the majority of the possession-based teams in the Championship at home, including Sunderland, Hull and Southampton. They should take heart from their display at Ipswich and deliver a 2-1 win over a Swansea side that may have lost a tiny bit of focus ahead of the South Wales derby.

Encouraging signs at Ipswich for Manning

Bristol City should be encouraged by their display against Championship title contenders Ipswich when they return to Ashton Gate to face Swansea on Sunday.

Defeat at Portman Road means Liam Manning’s side have now lost four in a row, but there was much to like about the overall performance against one of the division’s top teams.

And they should view a visit from Swansea as another opportunity to do what they do best – sit in and make things very awkward for teams that like to have the ball.  The Swans are unbeaten in three games with a midweek draw at Watford following their wins at Sunderland and Blackburn Rovers.

Robins can pick off possession-based sides

Luke Williams’ side had 63% of the ball at Vicarage Road and may achieve something similar against a Bristol City team who have beaten most of the possession-based teams at home this term — including Southampton, Middlesbrough, Sunderland and Hull.

Bristol City have a couple of lively options up front in Nahki Wells and Tommy Conway while Swansea’s Ronald has proven to be an exciting winter addition. The quality of the attackers adds to the belief that both teams will score in this contest.

Both teams have scored in the vast majority of Swansea away games this season while the home  side’s approach is unlikely to differ from their 3-2 defeat at Ipswich on Tuesday. But they may just get the better of a Swansea side who could already have one eye on next week’s South Wales derby.
