Liverpool vs Plymouth Predictions, Betting Tips and Match Previews

Liverpool’s Premier League title ambitions took a hit on Monday as they were pegged back by the struggling Sunderland, with two Jermain Defoe penalties guiding the hosts to a 2-2 draw at the Stadium of Light.

This ended Liverpool’s four match winning streak in the Premier League, but their unbeaten streak extends to six matches now as they look to forget that shocking 4-3 defeat at Bournemouth at the start of December.

In fairness to them that is their only defeat since game-week two of the Premier League, with them winning 16, drawing five, and losing just one since that equally shocking defeat at Burnley. At Anfield they have won nine and drawn two of their 11 games in all competitions as well, so Plymouth won’t be fancying their chances in this one.

Sadio Mane has been one of the stars of the season for Jurgen Klopp’s side, but the former Southampton winger has now joined up with the Senegal squad for the African Cup of Nations and will miss the next month or so of Liverpool action. They do have a number of fall backs though, and one of these is the in form Adam Lallana. The fellow former Southampton man has notched seven goals this season and is an impressive 13/10 to score anytime against the League Two outfit, so I’m backing him for our goalscorer predictions.

Plymouth’s own unbeaten streak ended on Monday with a 1-0 defeat at Barnet, leaving them 2nd in the League Two table with a point between them and leaders Doncaster Rovers. They are in good form overall though with four wins, two draws, and one defeat in their last seven matches. Now they face a trip to Anfield though, and whilst the players are almost definitely looking forward to such a big occasion, they won’t be too confident of getting something from the match.

Liverpool have scored at least three goals in five of their 11 home games this season, and that was almost entirely against Premier League opposition. They shouldn’t have much trouble breaking down the League Two defence of Plymouth here, so I’m backing Liverpool Over 2.5 Team Goals at 8/11 along with a 4-0 correct score prediction at 8/1.
