Liverpool and Both Teams To Score

Reason for tip

Jurgen Klopp’s side are the new title favourites, but clean sheets at Anfield have been hard to come by and Sheffield United have shown some life in the last few weeks

Luis Diaz To Score Anytime

Reason for tip

Liverpool’s Luis Diaz took his season’s tally to seven with a goal against Brighton and can usually be relied upon to be at the heart of the action against Premier League strugglers

Liverpool vs Sheffield United Predictions

  • Nine of Sheffield United’s last 11 league games have featured at least three goals.
  • Both teams have scored in eight of Liverpool’s last nine league games at Anfield.
  • Liverpool are unbeaten in their last 27 league home matches.

United could still be positive

Liverpool’s 2-1 Easter Sunday victory over Brighton and the draw between their two Premier League title rivals Manchester City and Arsenal that followed means the Reds are favourites to be crowned champions in Jurgen Klopp’s final season.

And few people will expect bottom-of-the-table Sheffield United to get anything from their trip to Anfield on Thursday, just as every other visitor apart from City, Arsenal and Manchester United have this season.

It has been a miserable season back in the top flight for the Blades and even though they have shown signs of life in the last couple of games, their fans have just witnessed more tales of woe.

A 6-0 home defeat to Arsenal was probably the nadir, but their hopes have been crushed in their last two outings against Bournemouth and Fulham, where they have established two-goal leads only to end with just a point to show for their efforts.

Few will be tempted by prices around 25/1 for them to become the first visiting team to win at Anfield this season, but it is at least demonstrating they have some forward endeavour and, at the very least, intend to go down fighting.

Reds still have to be on the ball

Chris Wilder’s team will also be encouraged by the fact that Liverpool are not great when it comes to keeping clean sheets on their own patch.

That has happened in just one of their last nine home league games and that was when Manchester United parked the bus in a goalless draw and hardly got out of their own half.

Brighton stung the Reds with an early goal on Sunday and it could take an early strike to wake them up again, particularly if they head into battle thinking they will not have to get out of second gear to see off the relegation candidates.

So, in a match that bookmakers anticipate will be one of the most one-sided affairs of the campaign, it is just worth taking a chance that the Blades will find a way through and Liverpool will win with both teams finding the net.

Diaz can make his mark

Mo Salah is likely to lead the Reds charge and had 11 efforts on goal against the Seagulls, including the winning goal, but anytime-goalscorer punters may be tempted to look elsewhere for some extra value.

One player who appeals is Luis Diaz, whose sharp reactions brought the Reds level against their visitors from the south coast.

That took his tally to seven for the season and after he had ten shots and six shots in recent home wins over Luton and Burnley, he could get on the scoresheet against another struggler.
