Liverpool vs Shrewsbury Predictions
- Liverpool have won six of their last seven home games and remain unbeaten at Anfield this season.
- Shrewsbury have lost nine of their 12 away games in League One.
- There have been at least three goals scored in eight of Liverpool’s last 11 games at Anfeld.
- Over 2.5 goals has landed in four of Shrewsbury’s last five away games.
Liverpool host Shrewsbury in FA Cup
Liverpool saw their game against Arsenal in the EFL Cup postponed in midweek due to a coronavirus outbreak at Anfield but Sunday’s FA Cup home game against Shrewsbury looks set to go ahead.
Manager Jurgen Klopp may be able to attend but that will probably only become clear on the day itself, with assistant boss Peter Krawietz in line to deputise if Klopp remains unable to return.
The Reds will have a number of players missing but would almost certainly have rotated for this cup game against League One opponents anyway, and they should still be able to reach the next round fairly comfortably even if they do make wholesale changes.
Result and goals looks the best option
If this match was taking place at New Meadow, Shrewsbury may have a chance against an understrength Liverpool – as they did when they forced a fourth round replay at Anfield two years ago – but their form on the road has been poor all season. The Shrews have only managed three wins away from home all season and two of those successes have come against lower league opponents in cup competitions, while they have lost nine of their 12 trips in League One.
Liverpool will make wholesale changes but will still put out a team they feel can win the game, and I expect a few big guns to at least be on the bench just in case things don’t go to plan.
The Reds are a short price to win the match so for a bit more value a home win with over 2.5 goals looks a strong option. Liverpool have won six of their last seven home games in all competitions and over 2.5 goals has landed in eight of their last 11 at Anfield, while four of Shrewsbury’s last five away have seen three or more goals scored.
As Liverpool will make changes and Shrewsbury should be up for this test against Premier League opponents there is a chance the visitors could get on the scoresheet, and a 4-1 win for the hosts has a chance in the correct score market.
