      Liverpool vs Sunderland Predictions

Liverpool’s 2-0 loss at the hands of Premier League leaders Leicester on Tuesday made it three games without a win for Jurgen Klopp, following on from a draw at home to West Ham and a 1-0 loss to Stoke in the League Cup semi final.

Fortunately for them, Liverpool did manage to win the home leg of the semi final, and their penalty triumph has sent them to Wembley to face Manchester City at the end of February.

However, Liverpool’s form has been suffering lately. They have only won two of their last eight matches in all competitions and have seen themselves slip further away from the European position in the Premier League.

They currently sit in 8th position in the table, six points adrift of Manchester United in 5th and only two points away from dropping into the bottom half of the table.

Sunderland remain in the relegation zone. They are in 19th position with four points bridging the gap between them and 17th placed Norwich. Arch rivals Newcastle sit between the two sides.

They have improved since the beginning of the season though. They put in a solid performance against Manchester City on Tuesday, but ultimately failed to keep the Premier League title contenders out and lost 1-0.

This made it three defeats, one draw, and one win in their last five outings, but at times they have looked like a capable team. Their 4-2 win at Swansea is an example of this, as is their 3-1 win over Aston Villa.

Their problem lies at the back. They haven’t kept a clean sheet since the end of November, with them conceding a total of 24 goals in the 11 matches since then.

Up front they are looking decent. They have only failed to score in three of their last 11 matches and can test even the best defences in the Premier League.

This makes odds of 19/20 for Both Teams to Score look very good value when you realise that Sunderland have seen this outcome in eight of their last 11 outings. I’m going for a Liverpool win though, and odds of 12/1 for a 3-1 Liverpool win also look great value for money.
