Tough start for promoted Reds

Prenton Park welcomes WSL champs Chelsea who are expected to roll over newly-promoted Liverpool.

Certainly Chelsea finished like a train last season and should have far too much for the Reds.

But this probably isn’t a bad time to be playing Chelsea, who have one or two injury issues.

And Liverpool carry a threat, chiefly in the shape of last term’s 13-goal top scorer Leanne Kiernan, who boss Matt Beard says has never looked sharper.

In the build-up to the season she has bagged a winning goal against Aston Villa and a hat-trick in an impressive 5-0 demolition of West Ham. Neither Villa nor the Hammers are Chelsea, but it demonstrates that Liverpool could ask a question or two.
