Drogheda can pile more misery on Longford

Drogheda are well placed to challenge for the Europa League spots in fifth place in the Irish Premier Division and they can give their European hopes a boost with a win over bottom club Longford Town on Saturday.  

Longford have managed just one win in 19 attempts so far, with 12 defeats and six draws, to leave them 11 points adrift of safety.

Town won promotion via the play-offs last season and look set for an immediate return after failing to handle the step up in class.  Longford did manage a respectable return of five points from their first five home games but have lost all five since, conceding nine goals and scoring just twice themselves.

The Drogs have hit a rough patch in form themselves with just two wins in their last six but they did down Finn Harps 3-1 in their last outing and they managed a point at league leaders Shamrock Rovers in their last away game.

Longford may be struggling for points and goals but they haven’t taken too many big beatings at home and have only conceded more than two goals twice in their last nine games at Strokestown Road and a 2-0 win for the visitors has some appeal in the correct score market.
