Lorient vs Lyon Betting Tips & Predictions

Lorient went into the international break having just been defeated 5-1 away to Angers, a terrible result which saw their five match unbeaten streak come to an abrupt end. They have now won three, drawn two, and lost one of their last six outings in all competitions, an excellent run of form which has seen them progress to the Coupe De France semi-final.

Their 13th position in Ligue 1 isn’t devoid of any hope just yet, but they are certain to have one eye on the upcoming Coupe de France semi final against Paris Saint Germain in the middle of April.

However, a good run of form for Lorient could see them rise up the Ligue 1 ladder quickly. The 39 points they have accrued so far is only ten fewer that a top four position, and within a few victories they could find themselves in the top six.

Lyon are the team that occupy that 4th position in the table, with their 49 points seeing them trail Nice by one point and 2nd placed Monaco by five. Below them, Rennes are just a point behind while Caen are three adrift.

Overall it’s been a disappointing season for Lyon. They managed to challenge PSG a bit for the top spot last term, but they have been nowhere to be seen this season, and are currently a huge 28 points behind the Ligue 1 champions.

Lyon have improved though, winning three of their last four and losing just two of their last nine in all competitions. Away from home they struggle though. They haven’t won on the road in their last three attempts and have lost five of their last eight away days. Lorient, on the other hand, are unbeaten in five home matches and have won three of them, which makes odds of 5/6 for a Lorient Win or Draw Double Chance excellent value for money. These odds are enhanced in attractiveness even further when you realise that Lorient have only lost to Lyon in one of their last five meetings. I’m backing a draw in this one though, with a 1-1 correct score prediction coming in at an attractive 11/2.
