Lyon vs Besiktas Predictions, Betting Tips and Match Previews

Lyon suffered a shock home defeat on Saturday as Lorient managed to beat them 4-1 at Parc OL, following on from their 3-0 win at Metz to make it one win, one draw, and three defeats for Lyon in their last five outings in all competitions.

One of these defeats was their 2-1 loss away to Roma in their Europa League second leg, but the 4-2 win they managed at Parc OL made sure they reached the quarter finals at the expense of the Italians.

Saturday’s embarrassing defeat aside, Lyon are actually very good on home soil. They have won nine of their last 11 games there and scored an impressive 40 goals in this run, conceding 12 at the other end to make for some very entertaining matches. In Europe they have seen 18 goals in their five home matches, with a huge 14 of those coming in their two Europa League matches.

Besiktas aren’t exactly goal shy at the moment either. They beat Trabzonspor 4-3 away from home on Saturday to extend their unbeaten streak to 11 games in all competitions, with eight of those ending in victory.

They have scored 24 goals in this period and have taken themselves eight points clear at the top of the Turkish Superliga. Away from home they have scored nine in their last five and won three of them.

Besiktas’ European campaign has seen them finish 3rd in their Champions League group, winning one of their three away days in the groups and seeing a total of 13 goals in these matches. This set up a tie with Hapoel Be’er Sheva in the Europa League, which they won 5-2 on aggregate before knocking out Olympiakos. They have continued the goalscoring trend in the Europa League as well, seeing three of their four matches have at least three goals scored.

Both teams have scored in all but one of their European games this season as well, with six of them having at least three goals in total. Lyon have seen over 2.5 goals in each of their last ten home games in all competitions too, so another high scoring game looks likely here.
