Lyon vs Lens Predictions
- Lyon need to win to guarantee a top four finish
- Lens will finish second irrespective of the result
- Lens have the Coup de France final to come next week
Champions League aim for Lyon
Lyon know a win over Lens in the final round of Ligue 1 fixtures will see them secure a place in the top four, while the visitors have nothing left to play for.
Lens saw their title bid officially ended with a 2-0 loss at home to PSG earlier this week and they will finish second whatever happens on Sunday. They also have the Coup de France final to come next week, so they probably won’t offer a great deal of resistance at the Parc Olympique Lyonnais.
Lyon could finish third with a win, which would see them qualify directly for the Champions League, and they need a victory to ensure they stay ahead of Rennes in fifth – and that should provide all the motivation they need to get the job done against an opponent with little to play for.
Les Gones saw a four-game winning run come to an end at Toulouse last time out but they have won their last three at home. Lens are winless in their last five away from home and now they no longer have the title as a target it is hard to see them ending that streak, so a Lyon win is a confident pick for our main bet.
Clean sheets have been an issue for Lyon recently as they have conceded in their last four games overall and have just three shut-outs in their last 10 at home across all competitions. However, Lens will probably hold something back on Sunday as the cup final will obviously be the priority and a 3-0 win for the hosts seems a reasonable correct score prediction, as Lyon have been in fine scoring form with nine goals in total across their last three games.
Corentin Tolisso is enjoying an excellent end to the season with Lyon as he has scored in each of his last four appearances, weighing in with three assists as well during that run. The 31-year-old will also be on penalty duties and he stands out as a contender for an anytime effort.
