Maastricht vs AZ Reserves Predictions
Consecutive Eerste Divisie victories against Roda JC and Jong Ajax have dragged MVV back into the mid-table mix, and Ron Elsen’s side will be aiming for the top half this Friday evening when they entertain 17th placed Jong AZ at De Geusselt. With the visitors without a win in ten outings and still in search of their first away success of the campaign, the hosts will be confident about extending their good run.
A goal from Kevin Kostons sealed a 0-1 victory for MVV at Jong Ajax last week, and Ron Elsen’s charges are now back up to 11th in the table after seeing off Roda JC 2-0 at De Geusselt on match day 14.
They have a great opportunity to make further progress this week against Jong AZ, and another victory here could see them climb as high as 7th with the mid-table area looking extremely congested.
Only three points separate 7th placed Roda from 12th placed Volendam, so MVV have a chance to get in front of those teams and on the brink of the Play-offs with a very winnable game at RKC to follow next week as well.
The concern for MVV heading into this Friday’s fixture is their poor overall form this term at De Geusselt, where they’ve won just two of their seven league matches, conceding 12 goals in the process.
Nonetheless, their win over Roda last time out in Maastricht was a fairly cosy one, so Elsen’s side could well have turned the corner now.
And there will be no excuses on match day 16 if they fail to beat a Jong AZ side that are winless in ten games and still hunting for their first away success of the season following three draws and four defeats on the road.
Jong have been beaten 3-1 by Jong PSV and NEC in their last two away games, and we fancy the same score line here as MVV should just be too strong for the Alkmaar reserves.
Despite winning just once all season, Jong have scored in 93% of their games, so considering MVV’s dodgy defensive record at De Geusselt, a home win with both teams to score looks the logical wager here.
Games involving Jong AZ this term have generally been high scoring with 60% of their matches featuring over 3.5 goals, so we’re also going for a 3-1 score line in this one.
