Maastricht vs Feyenoord Predictions
- Feyenoord are the defending champions.
- Over 3.5 goals has landed in four of Feyenoord’s last five games.
- Maastricht have won just four of their 19 league games.
Feyenoord begin KNVB Cup defence
Feyenoord defeated NEC in the KNVB Cup final last season and they begin their title defence against second tier outfit Maastricht on Tuesday.
The Rotterdam side had to do it the hard way last year as their first three games came against top flight rivals, including AZ and PSV, before they were given a test by Groningen in the semi-finals.
Groningen went on to win promotion, and Feyenoord should welcome this chance to open their cup bid up against a mid-table Eerste Divisie outfit.
Feyenoord will probably rotate for Tuesday’s trip to De Geusselt but they have a strong squad and anything other than an away win would register as a shock as Maastricht have won just four of their 19 league games this season.
That is reflected in the odds, with Feyenoord overwhelming favourites so to squeeze a bit of value out of this game backing an away win and over 3.5 goals looks a reasonable starting point.
Over 3.5 goals has landed in four of Feyenoord’s last five games and they have scored at least three goals themselves in six of their last seven away games against a higher standard of opposition, including in European trips to Manchester City, Benfica and Girona.
Feyenoord have struggled for clean sheets on their travels, however, as they have just one in 12 attempts away from home across all competitions this term.
MVV have scored 14 goals in nine home league games and have only failed to score in one of their last nine at home across all competitions, so the hosts may be able to add to the goals total here.
Ultimately, Feyenoord should run out comfortable winners and a 4-1 win for the visitors is the correct score pick as Brian Priske’s men look to start their KNVB Cup defence in style.
