Macclesfield vs Salford City Predictions
- Macclesfield have now gone seven games without a win and are eight points clear of the relegation zone.
- Salford City have won just once in their last five games, dropping to 14th position.
- Macclesfield have scored less than a goal a game this season but only conceded at a rate of 1.2 goals per game.
- Salford City have scored 45 times this season and conceded 46 times in a very balanced season so far.
Relegation woes continue to follow Macclesfield
Macclesfield have struggled all season and have hovered just above the relegation zone for the most part, a theme that has been the case for the past few season. They’ve won just seven times this season, failing to compete with the sides above them in League Two. They were deducted six points at the beginning of the season and whilst this hasn’t helped their cause, they wouldn’t be in too much of a better position without the penalty.
In recent weeks, Macclesfield haven’t been able to find form, losing three of their last five and being unable to separate themselves further from Stevenage at the foot of the table. Whilst a couple of those losses have come against promotion chasing teams, the recent loss against Morecambe meant the two sides swapped position and plunged Macclesfield into deeper trouble.
Macclesfield have averaged less than a goal a game this season with 32 goals in 35 games and goals have been a real issue for the side. They haven’t been in terrible form in defence though, conceding 42 times this season, at a rate of 1.2 goals per game. This is much lower than the other sides threatened with relegation and would suggest that the side have enough quality to get themselves free of trouble.
Inconsistency has cost Salford City
Salford City have struggled at points this season, always hovering around mid table and sometimes flirting with the playoff places but never quite getting there. This remains the case with the team picking up 13 losses this season but winning 11 times with inconsistency plaguing their season so far.
In recent weeks Salford have still struggled with getting consistent results, winning just once in their last five and being defeated by Colchester and Plymouth. This has halted any playoff push that might’ve been brewing with the team now sitting 11 points below 7th placed Northampton.
Salford have scored 45 goals this season, an average of 1.28 goals per game and, whilst their defensive record is almost identical at 1.31 goals conceded per match, they haven’t been able to see off games with the side lacking a killer edge at times. They’ll be hopeful that they can pick up a result this weekend but in order to really push into the top half they’ll need to add consistency to their game.
Two sides without much form clash this weekend
Neither of these two sides have set the league alight in recent weeks and we can’t really see Macclesfield or Salford running away with the victory this weekend. Goals look like they could be hard to come by in this match and we’re backing the tie to see under 2.5 goals as both team’s woes in front of goal carry on into this game.
We can’t see many goals in this one at all and we think a single goal decides things at Moss Rose. Macclesfield need the points more but have been getting deeper and deeper into trouble in recent weeks whilst Salford have shown they have the ability to pick up a win. We’re backing the visitors to add another win to their tally in a 1-0 victory.
