      Malaga vs Villarreal Predictions

So far they are yet to score in 4 league matches this season, which is worrying especially given the transfer window has been firmly shut until January and they will be unable to bring anyone in to fix their attacking woes. On the bright side they’ve been pretty tight at the back, with two 0-0 draws and two 1-0 defeats their results so far. However there is little positivity around Estadio La Rosaleda at the moment and their early form has only really been a continuation of what was also a desperate second half of last season.

Villarreal also struggled towards the end of the last campaign but have made a flying start to this one. Changes among the playing staff are customary at El Madrigal every summer but new signings usually bed in well and their natural positive style remains a constant.

They’ve been very impressive so far with 10 points coming from their opening 4 games and only Real Madrid and Barcelona are above them in the standings. They’ve looked threatening in front of goal in every game with 10 goals in total, a feat only bettered by Real.

It was a third consecutive 3-1 win for them on Sunday when they beat Athletic Bilbao at El Madrigal. It was a very comprehensive performance with the visitor’s goal a mere consolation in the dying seconds. They will travel south with great confidence and the way they are playing, you have to fancy them to inflict more woe on goalless Malaga.

At 10/11 you can back the visitors to win in the ‘draw no bet market’, which looks like a really safe bet given Malaga have shown the capability to be defensively sound even against the better sides but have done almost nothing to suggest they are capable of winning a game like this right now.

It is hard to understand why Malaga are still the bookies favourites for this game given their poor run and goalscoring troubles extend well back into last season. You have to think the visitors, who are playing with real flare and possess several genuine goal threats including Cedric Bakambu, who has netted 3 times in the league already, will have enough to break the Malaga resistance and win the game.

Both teams have scored in every game Villarreal has played so far though so perhaps this is a good chances for the hosts to get their first goal but the visitors possess more quality and could well dictate how this game shapes up. Therefore consider backing Villarreal to win 2-1 at 9/1.
