Malmo FF vs Rangers Predictions

  • Malmo FF are unbeaten in their last seven games.
  • Rangers were unbeaten in seven Europa League away games last season (won 5, Drew 2).
  • Both teams scored in nine of the last 14 Rangers away games.
  • Both teams scored in three of Malmo FF’s Champions League qualifiers this season.

Gers fancied to get off the mark in Malmo

Rangers are not only the favourites to progress from this tie but also to win Tuesday’s Champions League third qualifying round first-leg against Malmo in Sweden.

The Scottish champions have had a good pre-season and got their title defence off to a great start with a 3-0 home win over Livingston on Saturday.

Their hosts have a had a week off since securing their place in this round with a 2-2 away draw against Finns HJK.

Malmo have not been wholly convincing this season, but they switched goalkeepers at the start of July and veteran custodian Johan Dahlin has given them a more assured look, keeping three clean sheets in his four domestic appearances.

He wasn’t able to prevent HJK scoring in both legs of the previous round, nor Latvian minnows Riga notching in a drawn first round second leg, so Rangers will fancy their chances of grabbing a goal.

Steven Gerrard’s side scored in all of their European away games last season and their form on the road was exceptional, which is why we like their chances of bagging here.

Alfredo Morelos is a major doubt for the clash as El Buffalo has been isolating amid Covid red tape that held up his return to training, but Allan McGregor, Filip Helander and Borna Barisic could all come back in to the team after being left out of the league win over Livingston.

However, Kemar Roofe, Glen Kamara and Leon Balogun are all suspended blow and that just makes us think twice about backing Rangers to come away with a victory.

Instead we’ll take the Both teams to score option that falls into line with the stats on both sides’ respective recent European performances.

If Roofe and Morelos been available our forecast would have been a 2-1 away win but Gers may have to settle for a 1-1 draw on Tuesday and prepare to finish the job at Ibrox.
