Citizens unlikely to show any sympathy

Manchester City have lifted the FA Cup in two of the last five seasons, including last year, and perfectionist Pep Guardiola will be demanding his allies defend their crown.

The Citizens won’t have to be fully revved up to see off an injury-hit Huddersfield, who find themselves fourth bottom of the Championship, but Guardiola is still likely to show them some respect.

City rarely lose focus and they have a formidable record at the Etihad, where in 28 games in 2023 they won 25 times and drew three. During that time, they netted an incredible 87 goals.

That spells trouble for the Terriers, who were thrashed 4-1 away at Championship leaders Leicester on their last away trip. That means they have won only one of their last 11 on the road.

So, with City having netted at least three times in 11 of their last 16 fixtures, this promises to be a high-scoring clash.

Terriers may struggle to land a blow

Manchester City have won their last six FA Cup ties, five of which have been accompanied by a clean sheet, but that may not be guaranteed against a Huddersfield side that may as well go for broke.

Both teams have scored in eight of Huddersfield’s last ten matches, which should give them some belief going forward.

That could play a factor in backing City to win & over 4.5 goals, as the hosts could riot yet the visitors are not a forlorn hope to get themselves the scoresheet.
