      Manchester City vs Southampton Predictions

When Chelsea began their decline at the start of the season Manchester City looked sure fire favourites to take their spot at the top of the table and clinch the Premier League title in May.

But they have shown some massive frailties on a number of occasions this season. Their 1-0 loss to Juventus in midweek extended their winless streak to three matches, and the 4-1 thrashing at home to Liverpool showed how ineffectual they are at the back without Vincent Kompany to guide them.

This loss to Liverpool, along with wins for Manchester United and Leicester, saw them toppled from the top of the table and move down to 3rd. But the top two face off against each other on Saturday, so a win for City would guarantee that they move up at least one position.

Vincent Kompany is expected to miss this match as well, along with Joe Hart, Pablo Zabaleta, Elaquim Mangala, and Wilfried Bony. That’s three defenders and their first choice goalkeeper out, although after his performance last weekend the absence of Mangala might be a blessing.

Southampton were one of the in form teams in the Premier League going in to last weekend’s clash with Stoke, but they didn’t show up and ended up losing to them.

This was their first loss in nine matches in all competitions, with them taking away a victory in six of those matches.

This has seen them rise to 8th in the table, with a win on Saturday giving them a chance to move to within a point of the Europa League positions.

Graziano Pelle is out suspended for this match, with Jay Rodriguez, Fraser Forster, and Florin Gardos sidelined with injury.

But without their defensive lynchpin, City look like lambs for the slaughter at the back, so I think Southampton can grab a goal or two. But I highly doubt the visitors can keep the home side out, who have scored in 17 of their 20 matches this season. Odds of 8/11 for Both Teams to Score look good value to me, along with a 2-1 win for Manchester City at 15/2.
