City look to secure top-spot
Manchester City’s seven-game winning streak came to an end in midweek as they fell to defeat in Leipzig but they have a great chance to get back to winning ways when they host Wolves on Saturday.
Defeat in Germany was ultimately meaningless after Pep Guardiola’s side wrapped up top spot in their Champions League group, but Saturday’s clash gives the reigning champions a chance to consolidate top spot ahead of a relentless festive fixture list.
Wolves’ defence deserving of credit
Wolves will be far from easy to break down, though. They held out until the 90th minute against Liverpool last weekend and became just the second team to limit Jurgen Klopp’s men to a single goal all season, further reinforcing the admiration for how Bruno Lage has set his defence up.
The visitors have conceded just one goal in their last four games and that unfortunate loss was only their second in the last ten games, with that run of results pushing them up to eighth in the table and only six points off the top four.
Low-scoring game expected at the Etihad
Manchester City have won each of their last three meetings with Wolves and should be able to secure the three points, but I’m not expecting a high-scoring victory.
There has been just two goals in Wolves’ last four games and each of their last five have featured fewer than three goals, so I’m backing under 2.5 goals along with a narrow 1-0 win for the hosts.
Manchester City predicted lineup: Ederson; Walker, Stones, Dias, Cancelo; Rodri, Gundogan, De Bruyne; Silva, Sterling, Grealish
Wolves predicted lineup: Sa; Kilman, Coady, Saiss; Semedo, Neves, Moutinho, Ait-Nouri; Traore, Hee-Chan, Jimenez
- At least one team has failed to score in each of Wolves’s last five fixtures
- Manchester City have won by a single goal in two of their last three games in the Premier League
