Manchester City and Both Teams To Score
Reasoning
Manchester City vs Young Boys Predictions
- All three of Man City’s Champions League games this season have ended in 3-1 victories
- The Citizens have won all six of their home matches this season, but kept only two clean sheets
- Both of Young Boys defeats in this season’s Champions League have been by a 3-1 scoreline
City unstoppable but not impenetrable at home
Manchester City have bounced back from domestic defeats at Newcastle, Wolves and Arsenal by winning four matches on the spin across all competitions and their home form remains faultless this season.
The Citizens have won all six of their matches at the Etihad Stadium during 2023/24, meaning they have now emerged victorious from each of their last 23 matches on home soil, a run that dates back to New Year’s Eve.
However, Pep Guardiola’s side have only kept two clean-sheets from their six home fixtures this term and they have also conceded in all three of their Champions League games to date, each of which have finished 3-1, including the reverse meeting with Young Boys in Switzerland just a couple of weeks ago.
Young Boys to remain competitive
Young Boys produced a strong showing in their home game against City, with Meschak Elia cancelling out Manuel Akanji’s opener before the visitors went on to win the game thanks to second-half strikes from Erling Haaland.
That was the second 3-1 defeat the Swiss champions have suffered in Europe this season after they were also beaten by the same scoreline by RB Leipzig, while their other match in Group G ended in a 2-2 draw with Crvena Zvezda.
Raphael Wicky’s side have scored in 13 of their last 14 matches across all competitions and have proven they can notch against City, but with just one win in their previous 13 Champions League away games (including qualifying) it is difficult to see them avoiding defeat in Manchester.
Foden to fill potential Haaland void
Man City thrashed Bournemouth 6-1 in the Premier League on Saturday, but top scorer Haaland was forced off at half-time with a minor ankle injury that is likely to at least restrict his involvement on Tuesday.
Phil Foden replaced Haaland during that game and he went on to score City’s fourth goal of the contest, his second goal in as many games after he also netted against Manchester United the previous week.
The fact Foden started on the bench against Bournemouth suggests he should come into the team on Tuesday and, given his form, he is more than capable of finding the back of the net for the second time this season in the Champions League, after also netting against RB Leipzig on Matchday Two.
