Manchester United vs Bournemouth Predictions

Manchester United’s match on Sunday had to be postponed due to a mistake from a training exercise which resulted in a suspicious package being left at Old Trafford. The game was abandoned due to the potential bomb threat, and I would imagine the employee who left it there won’t be in the good books!

Manchester United needed a win in midweek to take their race for the top four into their own hands, but a final ever match at Upton Park wasn’t the best place to travel to. The atmosphere was electric from the start, which only intensified as kick off was delayed due to the visitors’ team bus being bombarded with missiles.

Once it kicked off the pace was intense, and West Ham looked the dominant team for much of the match. They went one goal ahead, but Anthony Martial dragged his side from the gutter to put them in front with a brace. A farewell to Upton Park was only going to end one way though, and West Ham managed to bring it back and win 3-2.

Their hopes of Champions League football are all but invisible now. Manchester City claimed a point at Swansea to take them three points clear of their cross-city rivals. Manchester United now need to win by a ridiculous 19 goal margin to leapfrog them.

The defeat at Upton Park ended their six match unbeaten streak, and with five wins during this period they will still feel confident of getting a result on Sunday. At Old Trafford they are unbeaten in ten matches and have won seven of them.

Bournemouth drew at home to West Brom on Saturday to make it five defeats, one win, and one draw in their last seven outings. Their Premier League campaign has petered out, but they will still be happy to be uninvolved in the relegation battle. They come into the final game in 16th position, with a win giving them the potential to move as high as 12th.

Manchester United have been pretty shocking in front of goal all season, so a 19-0 win is certainly off the table. With nothing left to play for it’s unlikely that there will be a goalfest from the goalshy hosts. With the FA Cup Final on Saturday it’s likely that a massively weakened side will be fielded too. Each of the last seven matches at Old Trafford have had fewer than three goals scored as well, so odds of 13/10 for Under 2.5 Goals look incredibly good value. I’m going for a 1-0 win for Manchester United at 7/1 as well.
