Manchester United vs LASK Linz Predictions

  • Manchester United have won seven of their 11 competitive matches since the restart.
  • They have kept five clean sheets during this period.
  • LASK have lost seven of their 11 competitive games since the resumption.
  • The visitors have conceded 1.7 goals per game during this period.

Comfortable cushion allows for rotation

Manchester United return to action after just ten days break on Wednesday as their Europa League campaign resumes, but Wednesday night’s hosting of LASK Linz shouldn’t be too arduous on the Red Devils.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side lead the tie 5-0 after the first leg, which was one of the last matches to be played before the coronavirus-enforced shutdown of sport. It, like Wednesday’s will be, was played behind closed doors and saw the favourites run out 5-0 victors to all but end the tie.

Should Manchester United run deep in the competition, another hectic schedule lies ahead of them and this very comfortable lead gives Solskjaer the opportunity to rest some of the key players, who were looking extremely jaded towards the end of their successful Premier League campaign. Even with a reduced strength squad, however, Manchester United should have more than enough to claim another win here.

LASK to struggle to shake of cobwebs

LASK haven’t been in competitive action since the Austrian Bundesliga ended at the start of July, and their form towards the end of the season wasn’t exactly confidence inspiring. They lost their last three matches, conceding seven goals and scoring just one at the other end.

In fact, since the restart LASK have won just three of their 11 outings, falling to defeat in seven of them and ending up 4th in the Austrian Bundesliga table. They’re likely to bring a full strength contingent to this high profile clash against the Premier League giants, but the tie as a contest is over and that could play on the LASK players’ minds.

Comfortable win for the hosts on the cards

Understandably, we’re predicting another Red Devils win on Wednesday. They have won seven of their 11 competitive games since the restart and, despite a few high profile mistakes by David De Gea, they have managed to keep a clean sheet in five of these matches.

LASK failed to score in their friendly last week and didn’t hit the back of the net in two of their final three competitive games, so a shutout for the hosts looks likely and backing Manchester United win to nil looks a solid option.

Two of Manchester United’s final four games ended with a 2-0 scoreline, and with their star attackers likely to be rested we’re not expecting another demolition job here. LASK conceded 17 goals in their ten games after the restart, so a 2-0 correct score prediction is our choice.
