Manchester United vs Leeds Predictions
- Manchester United are on a four-game winning streak in all competitions
- Leeds have scored in six of their ten away games in the Premier League this term
- Manchester United have conceded in five of their last seven matches
- Marcus Rashford has scored 11 goals since returning from the World Cup
United out to keep narrowing the gap at the top
Manchester United and Leeds are set to lock horns twice in the Premier League in the space of only five days and the first meeting between the sides at Old Trafford on Wednesday could be a lively affair.
There is plenty of history between these two clubs and their encounters last season did not disappoint with Manchester United running out 5-1 winners at home and 4-2 winners on the road.
And a United win could again be the way to go when they meet for the first time this season.
Erik ten Hag’s men have looked sharp since returning from the World Cup break and are only three points behind Manchester City in the Premier League after the weekend’s results.
Red Devils have great shot at maximum points
While City lost to Tottenham, United dug deep to beat Crystal Palace 2-1 at Old Trafford but it was a match filled with controversy as midfielder Casemiro was handed a straight red card for violent conduct.
The Brazilian has been a crucial part of United’s transformation under Ten Hag and his absence for this match is a big blow, although his compatriot Fred should be able to slot in and do a job.
That victory against Palace was United’s 13th straight win at Old Trafford in all competitions and it would be a bold move to oppose them against Leeds.
The Manchester outfit must shortly turn their attention to a two-legged Europa League knockout affair with Barcelona as well as the EFL Cup final against Newcastle so this is a match in which they simply have to take maximum points.
Pressure mounting on lowly Leeds
Leeds are in the midst of a relegation battle right now, having not picked up a Premier League win since early November, and their latest 1-0 loss away to Nottingham Forest was a real suckerpunch, resulting in the sacking of Jesse Marsch.
But Leeds could nonetheless take plenty of positives from that slender defeat at the City Ground, where they were in control in the early stages of the match.
The build-up play from the team was quick, slick and promising and had it not been for new star signing Keylor Navas impressing between the sticks for Forest, Leeds could have found an early way through.
Youngster Wilfried Gnonto was particularly impressive out wide and this Leeds team has goals in it, having scored in 13 of their 20 league matches this season.
Goals could be on the cards at Old Trafford
A bet on a United win looks wise but to extract more value from the selection, go for Manchester United to win and both teams to score.
The Red Devils have won by a 2-1 scoreline twice since the turn of the year and that is our best correct score prediction.
As for a goalscorer pick, it is hard to see past the red-hot Marcus Rashford, who is on ten league goals for the season, averaging a goal every 171 minutes.
