United can build on Arsenal draw

Winning the Europa League is the only way Manchester United can somewhat salvage their season and they can take another big step forward in the competition by beating Real Sociedad on Thursday.

The first leg in Basque country finished 1-1 after Mikel Oyarzabal’s penalty cancelled out Joshua Zirkzee’s opener but that was not a disastrous result for the Red Devils.

And they should be in pretty confident mood after their threadbare squad held Arsenal to a 1-1 draw in the Premier League on Sunday.

Ruben Amorim’s back five held firm against the Gunners and they have avoided defeat in 90 minutes in their last four home contests in all competitions, while they defeated Rangers at Old Trafford in the league phase.

Real Sociedad continue to underwhelm

Real Sociedad only had to see of Midtjylland in the knockout round playoffs and it has otherwise been an underwhelming campaign.

Fatigue could also be setting in with Real Sociedad having already played 18 games in 2025 and in that run they have lost games against Valencia, Lazio, Getafe, Osasuna, Real Betis, Real Madrid, Barcelona and Sevilla.

Imanol Alguacil could therefore have a tough time energising his squad before this second leg and they may struggle to capitalise on United’s lack of numbers.

As for the correct score pick, it could still be close and United can edge this 2-1.
