Over 2.5 Match Goals

Reason for tip

Mansfield were unlucky to lose 2-1 at Burton Albion last weekend and can bounce back against Doncaster, who dominated Exeter City but only managed a 1-0 victory. Mansfield’s matches averaged 2.9 goals in League One last season with each of the last 10 featuring three or more – as did each of Doncaster’s last four League Two fixtures.

Mansfield Town 2-1

Reason for tip

Mansfield scored three goals against Middlesbrough in pre-season and could have had three against Burton if they had taken two very good chances. They can bag a couple against a Doncaster side that had little to do last week, although inconsistent in pre-season. Rovers should get on the scoresheet as well with a 2-1 home win just preferred over a high-scoring draw.

Mansfield Town vs Doncaster Predictions

  • Mansfield were unlucky to lose 2-1 at Burton Albion last weekend
  • Doncaster dominated Exeter City but only managed a 1-0 victory, despite recording 16 shots to the Grecians’ two
  • Mansfield’s matches averaged 2.9 goals in League One last season

Stags set to lock horns with Rovers

Mansfield were left to rue missed chances at Burton Albion last week, but there was enough encouragement there to suggest that they can give Doncaster more problems than Exeter did on opening day when they meet at One Call Stadium on Saturday.

Stags boss Nigel Clough felt his side missed the best two chances of the 2-1 defeat, in the first and last minutes, as his side could easily have taken a point or more back at his former club. The match statistics tell a story of an even clash, and Mansfield will feel confident of getting something against newly promoted Rovers.

Grant McCann’s side totally dominated in their 1-0 win, registering 16 shots to Exeter’s two with three on target to none from the visitors.

Goals look guaranteed at One Call Stadium

Doncaster won the League Two title last season thanks to a superb four-game winning streak at the end that took them clear.

Each of those matches featured at least three goals and that looks to be the best way into this clash, which could go either way if Mansfield tuck their opportunities away.

The Stags’ matches averaged 2.9 goals in League One last season with each of the last 10 going over the 2.5-goal mark, most of them comfortably. Back a 2-1 home win here given Mansfield won three of their last six home games last term, including a 3-0 final day demolition of Exeter.
