Unbeaten Stags can book quarter-final spot

League Two Mansfield Town took down League One outfit Peterborough in the third round of the EFL Cup last month and they can beat another third-tier side in the form of Port Vale on Tuesday.

The Stags may be a division below Tuesday’s EFL Cup opponents but they are going well in League Two and are the division’s only unbeaten team after 15 matches.

More recently they have been turning draws into wins, battering both Notts County and Harrogate 4-1 before a 2-1 triumph over Walsall on Saturday.

Promotion is the aim of the game in League Two this term but Mansfield have shown the EFL Cup is equally as important to them with wins over Grimsby and Sheffield Wednesday before the Peterborough scalp.

Winless streak set to continue for Port Vale

Port Vale also deserve praise for reaching this stage but are less battle-hardened, having had a softer run to the last 16, and they are not in good form.

Saturday’s 2-1 loss to Cheltenham extended Port Vale’s winless sequence in all competitions to seven games, having not won in 90 minutes since September’s cup win over Sutton United.

Their morale is low right now and Mansfield should capitalise with victory at Field Mill.

It could be a close one, though, with a place in the quarter-finals of the EFL Cup a huge deal for both clubs and a 2-1 win to Mansfield represents a decent correct score prediction.
