Mansfield and Port Vale face off at Wembley

Mansfield and Port Vale meet in the League Two play-off final on Saturday afternoon as the two sides battle it out for the last remaining place in League One.

The Stags came close to automatic promotion but ended up in seventh place after drawing with champions Forest Green in the final round of games, with Mansfield then overcoming Northampton over two legs in the semi-finals.

Vale had an end-of-season wobble but won their final fixture to finish in seventh spot. The Burslem outfit then fought back from a 2-1 first leg defeat and beat Swindon Town on penalties to secure their place at Wembley.

Stags the form team

Each of the last six play-off finals in this division have been decided in normal time and I’m expecting that pattern to continue on Saturday, and a win for Mansfield looks a good option as our main bet.

The Stags won both legs against a good Northampton team to reach the final, while the Valiants were taken the full distance by Swindon and needed penalties to win the tie.

Vale did have the better of the two regular season games with a win and a draw, but they go into the game in poor form with four defeats in their last six. In contrast, Mansfield are unbeaten in six with four wins and two draws and they can use that momentum to win inside 90 minutes on Saturday.

Over 2.5 and BTTS look good options

This could be a good fixture for over 2.5 goals and both teams to score as there have been at least three goals scored in three of Mansfield’s last four games and both teams have scored in three. Over 2.5 goals has been a winning bet in three of Vale’s last six and both teams have scored in three of those games, and this is reflected in a correct score prediction of 2-1 to Mansfield.

The Nottinghamshire club have scored exactly two goals in six of their last eight games, and in three of their last four victories, while Vale have only failed to score in one of their last 11 games.

Mansfield’s Jordan Bowery stands out as a potential anytime goalscorer option as he heads into the play-off final in good form. Bowery was key to his side’s first leg win over Northampton with a goal and an assist, and he was on target in the 2-2 draw with Forest Green in the final round of regular season fixtures.
