Mansfield Backed to Outscore Wigan at Home

Mansfield have enjoyed success in five of their last seven home games in League One and they should be backed to beat Wigan on Saturday.

Ninth-placed Mansfield are five places above Wigan in the table, but they have played one fewer game. The hosts have won five of their 12 games this season, while Wigan have won four.

Mansfield have found the net in 18 of their last 20 League One games and have scored an average of 1.67 goals a game in their nine matches against bottom-half teams this season. They have been prolific at home, averaging 2.67 goals a game in three such matches.

They have lost just one of their last seven home games in League One, and their recent results are encouraging.

Wigan’s recent away form does not inspire confidence. They have not won any of their last six League One road games this season, and have tasted victory just once in their last ten away trips.

Wigan’s defence is a concern. The visitors have conceded on all six of their League One away days this season, leaking 12 goals – an average of two a game – in those matches. They have failed to keep a clean sheet in their last eight League One away games.

Mansfield may be able to edge out Wigan in a closely-fought game, with a 2-1 home win the correct-score pick. Six of Mansfield’s last eight League One games have ended with both sides scoring, and two of their five wins this season have come via a 2-1 scoreline.
