Over 2.5 Match Goals

Reason for tip

At least three goals have been scored in four of Marseille’s last five matches. Meanwhile, over 2.5 goals has landed in Lens’ last three away Ligue 1 fixtures too. Lens will be without one of their three regular central defenders and with Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang still in hot form this match should feature a few goals.

Marseille 2-1

Reason for tip

Lens have lost their last two away matches by the same score – 2-1, which looks a big runner in this matchup too. Marseille have scored exactly two goals in each of their last two Ligue 1 matches.

Marseille may dent Lens’ Euro hopes

Marseille may have enough momentum to dent Lens’ European hopes with a win at Orange Velodrome on Sunday.

Jean-Louis Gasset’s side are unbeaten in three games now and will have an eye on next week’s Europa League semi-final against Atalanta. The dream of landing their first major silverware in over a decade could see one or two players lose focus for this Ligue 1 clash, which must now mean more to the visitors.

Marseille’s 2-2 home draw with Nice in midweek opened the door for Lens to move above Les Aiglons in the race to finish in the top five. It was a peculiar game punctuated by some eccentric refereeing, but Marseille were perhaps unlucky not to take all three points.

Ageless Aubameyang still looks a big threat

Les Phoceens could win this clash against a Lens side that has lost each of their last two road trips by the same 2-1 scoreline.

But given how much more rests on their next match it may be better to back over 2.5 goals in the game in preference to the hosts. At least three goals have been scored in four of Marseille’s last five matches and in each of Lens’ last three road assignments.

Le Sang et Or will travel without the suspended defender Jonathan Gradit, who helps hold things together at the back, while Pierre-Emerick Aubameyamg looks as potent as ever in the home ranks.
