Tip Reasoning

  • Marseille are unbeaten in their first six Ligue 1 games this term, winning four.
  • Les Olympiens are also unbeaten in their last 11 home league matches, winning eight.
  • Lens suffered their first defeat of the campaign on Wednesday, losing 1-0 to Strasbourg at Stade Bollaert-Delellis.

Marseille to maintain excellent form against Lens

Marseille consolidated their excellent start to the season with a goalless draw at third placed Angers in midweek and Les Olympiens are backed to take maximum points from this Sunday evening’s clash against Lens at Stade Velodrome.

Jorge Sampaoli’s side slipped a further two points behind PSG on Wednesday following Les Parisiens’ last gasp winner at Metz, though Marseille’s point at Stade Raymond Kopa has to be considered a good result on its own merit.

Les Olympiens are unbeaten through their first half dozen league matches this term, winning four, and even if they’re unable to keep pace with PSG this season, finishing best of the rest certainly looks a real possibility.

Key to Marseille’s improvement since Sampaoli’s arrival has been the transformation of Stade Velodrome into the fortress it once was, and Lens travel south this weekend knowing that their opponents are unbeaten in their last 11 Ligue 1 starts here, winning eight.

The visitors have also enjoyed a good opening to the campaign and sit fourth in the standings seven games in, with just one of those matches ending in defeat. That loss did come in midweek though, Sang et Or surprisingly turned over 1-0 by Strasbourg at Stade Bollaert-Delellis.

Franck Haise’s side will undoubtedly pose Marseille with a stern test this Sunday night, but we just feel that the hosts are the better team overall.

Les Olympiens can edge matters to enhance their tremendous recent record at the Velodrome, though we’re not expecting too many goals with a battling 1-0 success for Sampaoli’s side on the cards.
