Marseille to Win and Over 2.5 Match Goals

Reason for tip

Marseille have won four of their last five home games in all competitions with over 2.5 goals in three. Meanwhile, Lyon have lost four of their six away games in Ligue 1 this season and are conceding goals through sloppy mistakes.

Marseille 3-1

Reason for tip

Lyon played much better at the weekend under interim coach Pierre Sage than under ex-boss Fabio Grosso. They could score against a Marseille side that shipped three against Ajax recently. But Marseille have scored 12 goals in their lats five home games and can bag three times here.

Marseille can maintain rise up the table

Marseille are picking up momentum and should be able to maintain their winning form against rock-bottom Lyon on Wednesday.

Les Olympiens won only three of their first 11 games this season as they struggled under Marcelino, who was replaced by Gennaro Gattuso at the end of September.

Results have picked up and, after five wins in their last nine games, they finally look set to crack the top half of the Ligue 1 table.

Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang is among the goals again and he could make the difference in this clash with the fallen giants of French football.

Lyon looked better but remain error-prone

Lyon bit the bullet and sacked Fabio Grosso last week after an awful start to the campaign. His interim replacement, ex-youth team boss Pierre Sage, coaxed a decent performance out of them against sixth-placed Lens on Saturday, but they still lost 3-2.

An increased emphasis on attacking play was evident, but individual errors proved costly. It might take Sage, or whoever gets the job on a permanent basis, some time to root out the deadwood in the squad and, until then, mistakes will keep on tripping them up.

Hence, the play has to be Marseille to extend their fine home run with a few goals in the game.
