Marseille vs Nancy Predictions

Marseille will seek to preserve their unbeaten home record on Sunday afternoon when they face off against Nancy at Stade Velodrome.

Marseille’s solid home form has been the only shining light of Les Olympiens’ season so far and their four wins and three draws at Stade Velodrome have countered their awful away results – Rudi Garcia’s men have managed just three points on the road from a possible 24.

It means the former nine times champions are sitting 11th in the Ligue 1 standings heading into Sunday’s game and in relative no man’s land considering the top half have a four point break on the rest.

Nevertheless, the bookies have Marseille priced up as 4/5 favourites for Sunday afternoon’s clash at the Velodrome and it’s pretty easy to see why, based on their home exploits and the fact that opponents Nancy have won just once away this term in seven starts.

But nothing is ever so straightforward for Marseille and Pablo Correa’s visitors actually go into this weekend’s game in decent touch.

After floundering in the relegation zone ten matches into the season, wins against Caen, Dijon and Metz in recent weeks have propelled Nancy up to 13th in the table and just two points behind Sunday’s hosts.

Their victory over Metz in midweek was an impressive one as goals from Dia, Cuffaut, Ait Bennaser and veteran Benoit Pedretti sealed a 4-0 rout and Correa’s charges simply cannot be discounted here after such a fillip.

Marseille have the best of recent meetings between the teams winning four of the last five. However, it’s worth remembering that the clubs haven’t clashed since the 2012/13 campaign and Nancy will have had this fixture at the Velodrome in their sights since returning to the top flight last May.

Clubs such as Nancy still view Marseille as a huge scalp despite Les Olympiens’ current troubles so it’s feasible to expect another strong performance from Correa’s side on Sunday.

And at 4/5, Marseille just cannot be trusted to overcome a team brimming with confidence after four wins in seven and a comprehensive triumph in midweek.

So although our selection doesn’t look an obvious one at first glance, we’ll back Nancy to come out best this Sunday and the 4/1 about the visitors looks good value, all things considered.
