Melbourne City vs Sydney FC Predictions

Melbourne City have suffered a bit of a dip in form recently, and it’s only because of the poor form at the top of the Hyundai A-League that they are still in with a chance of challenging at that end of the table. They have only won one of their last five matches and have been on the end of a defeat three times, leaving them in 4th position in the table with a six point difference to make up between them and league leaders Western Sydney Wanderers.

To be fair to them, most of this poor form has come away from home. Their last seven home matches have yielded an impressive 17 points, with only four points being dropped at the AAMI Park since the middle of November.

Sydney FC were challenging for the title last season and narrowly missed out on the Premier and Championship titles to Melbourne Victory. This season hasn’t really gone to plan though, and they are currently occupying 6th position in the A-League with eight points between them and the top of the table. More urgently, they could drop out of the playoff positions if they lose on Saturday as Perth Glory are lurking just two points behind them after a recent resurgence.

The visitors managed to get a win in the Asian Champions League on Wednesday over Guangzhou Evergrande, but that is their only win in their last eight matches in all competitions. Away from home they are on a four match winless streak and have only won one of their last nine.

These two played out a draw at the AAMI Park back at the start of February thanks for a late equaliser from Sydney FC. I don’t see that happening against on Saturday. The hosts’ excellent home record is unlikely to falter twice in a row against a Sydney FC side really struggling to pick up points recently, and this makes odds of 10/11 for a Melbourne City win look good value for money to me.

Melbourne City have scored at least two goals in each of their last seven home matches and have netted three or more on four occasions too. This excellent attacking record makes odds of 12/1 very attractive for a 3-1 correct score prediction on Saturday.
