Melbourne Victory vs Western Sydney Wanderers Predictions

Melbourne Victory have endured a few sticky spells of form this season, which will be a disappointment to them considering they won both the Hyundai A-League Premier and Championsip last season.

Their surprising 3-2 defeat to Perth Glory on Saturday ended their five match unbeaten streak in the A-League, but before that they had lost four and drawn one of their previous five matches.

Melbourne Victory’s recent record is decent though. They have won three, drawn two, and lost one of their last six A-League matches.

This leaves them in the midst of a very competitive mid-table battle. They are in 4th position in the A-League, six points behind leaders Western Sydney Wanderers but within one point of 3rd, 5th, and 6th positions.

Western Sydney Wanderers have a two point lead over Brisbane Roar in 2nd place, so they could lose their top spot position in the table if they lose on Saturday.

They managed to get a thrilling 4-3 win over 3rd placed Melbourne City on Friday, a win that took their record to two wins, two defeats, and a draw in their last five matches. But these two defeats seem to be anomalies rather than the norm for the impressive Sydney based side.

They have only lost these two games in their last 14 outings in the Hyundai A-League, with ten of these 14 matches ending in a full haul of points for Western Sydney Wanderers.

Western Sydney Wanderers managed to break their curse against Melbourne Victory the last time these sides met. They beat them 2-0 at home to end a run of four defeats in a row against them.

Both of these sides are looking good up front at the moment and have faltered at the back. Melbourne Victory have scored in each of their last seven games and seen three or more goals scored in three of their last five outings.

Western Sydney Wanderers have only failed to score in one of their last 14 matches and have played their part in goalfests in each of their last four matches.

This makes odds of 5/6 for Over 2.5 Goals and Both Teams to Score look very good value, and I’m also backing a 2-2 draw at 10/1.
