Metz vs Guingamp Predictions

Metz’ winless streak continued on Sunday as they lost 3-0 away to Caen. This followed on from a penalty victory over Toulouse in the Coupe de la Ligue, but in normal time they haven’t won any of their last five games.

Each of their last three Ligue 1 games have ended in defeat as well, with them scoring none and conceding nine in the process. This is by no means the first bad run of form they have embarked on this season either, making it no surprise that they sit 17th in the Ligue 1 table and on the brink of dipping into the relegation zone.

Metz’ home form isn’t anything to shout about either, with just eight points picked up from their seven games so far leaving them with the 2nd worst home record in the division.

Guingamp, on the other hand, have enjoyed a week better than they could have imagined. Matches against Lyon and PSG with just two days in between could easily have ended in disaster for them, but they knocked Lyon out of the Coupe de la Ligue on penalties and then secured a shock 2-1 victory over PSG in the league on Saturday.

This puts Guingamp 5th in Ligue 1 after 18 games, and with only two points between them and Lyon above them a shot at European qualification is within their reach if they can keep up the good work.

The visitors have proven incredibly difficult to beat so far this season. They have lost just two of their last 12 in all competitions and both of those were by a single goal margin. Five of these 12 games have been all square after 90 minutes, but it’s still a very impressive record for a team of their stature.

Guingamp are by no means the highest scoring team around, but they do have a well balanced attack and a lot of players chipping in with goals. Marcus Coco is one to watch on Wednesday, as three of his four goals have come away from home and the 20 year old comes in at a high value 4/1 to score anytime. He’s who I’m backing for our goalscorer predictions.

Metz’ task will be made doubly tough by the fact they are missing their star striker Mevlut Erdinc through injury. Metz have also conceded a huge 17 goals in their last five home games in Ligue, whilst Guingamp have only kept one clean sheet on the road all season.

This makes odds of 4/5 for Both Teams to Score look a good value bet, and that’s what I’m backing alongside a 2-1 win for Guingamp at 17/2 for my correct score predictions.
