Midtjylland vs Southampton Betting Tips

Southampton came into the match against Midtjylland on the back of a 3-0 thrashing at home to Everton, which came after a disappointing but entertaining draw against Newcastle.

A 1-1 draw against the underdogs Midtjylland wasn’t the way to amends for their dismal start to the Premier League campaign.

They had to come from behind as well, with the Danish team scoring on the halfway mark before Jay Rodriguez scored a penalty, his first goal since his return from a long spell on the sidelines.

Southampton generally had the better of the chances in the game, but just weren’t clinical enough. 20 shots on goal yielding just 1 goal isn’t good enough at any level, let alone continental competition.

Midtjylland followed up this 1-1 draw with another 1-1 draw in the Danish SuperLiga, a result that keeps them top of the table with 14 points from their opening 6 games.

Southampton also followed this game up with a draw, but their goalless boredraw against Watford on Sunday leaves them with just 2 points from their opening 3 games, a points tally which leaves them in 18^th position in the Premier League.

Southampton are the bookies favourites to get a victory on Thursday, but I just don’t see the same fluid, defensively sound and impressive side that we witnessed last season. Alderweireld, Clyne, Forster, and Schneiderlin are huge losses for them.

Midtjylland will simply be out to avoid defeat on Thursday, and will know that a goalless draw will put them through to the group stages. This, plus the fact that Southampton haven’t looked particularly sharp going forward, makes us think that odds of 7/10 for Under 2.5 Match Goals are very good value.

We think that Midtjylland’s defensive stance will pay off, and backing a 1-0 win for the home side at 9/1 could well yield a profit.
