Montpellier vs Auxerre Predictions
- Both teams have scored in seven of Montpellier’s last 11 home league games, including both this season
- Both teams have scored in two of Auxerre’s four Ligue 1 matches this season
- Teji Savanier has scored in three of his last four appearances at Stade de la Mosson
Struggling sides should both concede
Sunday’s clash between Ligue 1 strugglers Montpellier and Auxerre could be close to the end, but based on their early-season performances, it would be surprising if either team kept a clean sheet.
Montpellier’s 50th anniversary campaign has not got off to a very good start with a home draw against Strasbourg on opening weekend producing the only point they have on the board.
Former Celtic defender Christopher Jullien has been missed with Michel Der Zakarian’s men conceding 12 goals in three subsequent losses to PSG, Nantes and Rennes.
Savanier still the main man for Montpellier
Yo-yo club Auxerre made a promising start to life back in Ligue 1 when they beat Nice on matchday one, but they have also lost three in a row coming into this game. They failed to score in last weekend’s 3-0 home reverse to Monaco, but will have a much easier task this week against La Paillade’s leaky backline.
Montpellier rely on the creativity of Teji Savanier and finishing ability of Akor Adams, the only two players that have scored for them this term. One or both might be able to do something in this clash, which already feels like a must-win for the home side.
Back both teams to score with Savanier, who scored nine league goals last season and 13 the year before, available at decent odds to get on the scoresheet again.
