Montpellier vs Metz Predictions
- The hosts have earned the third most points at home in Ligue 1 this season with just one loss, against PSG, at the Stade de la Mosson in all competitions since August.
- Metz have won their last three matches but have got an awful away record with them picking up just ten of a possible 33 points on the road.
- Montpellier have scored 29 goals in their last twelve matches at home.
Montpellier looking to bounce back
Montpellier suffered the full brunt of PSG’s power at the weekend as they were thrashed 5-0. La Paillade have got a better record than most over the Parisians but they were powerless to resist the ability of Mbappé and Neymar. This was actually Montpellier’s second defeat in a row as they were knocked out of the Coupe de France by fourth-tier Belfort on penalties the week before.
This was a poor couple of games for Michel Der Zakarian’s men but they’ll be eager to get back on track here. They will be the hosts for this one and confidence will be high due to their incredible record at the Stade de la Mosson. Montpellier have picked up the third most points away from home in Ligue 1 this season with them winning ten of their last twelve games in all competitions at the stadium. They’ve netted 29 times along the way with six clean sheets the cherry on the cake.
Metz high in confidence following recent form
However, Metz will prove extremely tricky customers here as les Grenats have won each of their last three matches in the league despite sitting 16th. They beat Saint-Étienne at the weekend (3-1) to continue their form and will be hoping for a similar performance here. Much of this season has been a struggle for Metz but these wins, especially the victories over Strasbourg and Reims, show their recent upturn in form, something they’ll be eager to showcase against another tough opponent here in Montpellier.
However, the visitors’ away form is pretty atrocious with them picking up just ten of their possible 33 points on the road. Their victory against a severely out-of-form Reims recently was their first away from home since September but in the seven matches prior to the win, Metz had conceded 14 goals and netted just four.
The hosts to get the win in this tight clash?
As much as Metz have been better as of late, they have a tricky task here in Montpellier and it’s one we ultimately see them losing. The hosts’ record at the Stade de la Mosson is very good and with Metz not overly confident on the road, we’re edging this one in favour of the home side. The visitors should put up a good fight though so we’re backing this to finish 2-1 to the hosts.
