Montpellier vs Nancy Predictions
Nancy will seek to exploit Montpellier’s porous defence and climb out of the Ligue 1 relegation zone when the sides clash at Stade de la Mosson on Saturday evening.
Things looked rather ominous for last season’s Ligue 2 champions in the opening rounds of the season. However, Pablo Correa’s side have managed to claim victories against Caen and Dijon in recent weeks to lift themselves off the foot of the table.
A 6-0 humiliation at Monaco two starts ago highlighted that Nancy are still extremely vulnerable against the more useful teams in Ligue 1. However, the aforementioned wins will have given Correa belief that his charges have enough quality to take their fair share of points from clubs in the bottom half in order to stay in the top flight.
And they’ll likely be targeting a result this weekend against a Montpellier side that have shipped 27 goals in 13 Ligue 1 outings.
It’s no surprise with such a record that Montpellier currently have the worst defence in France, however, Frederic Hantz’ men have similarly been on the upgrade since a 6-2 drubbing at Monaco last month.
Away draws to Lorient and Bastia either side of an impressive home success against Marseille means Saturday’s hosts go into this weekend 13th in the table. although they are only three points ahead of 18th placed Nancy amongst a congested bottom half.
Montpellier’s win over Marseille continued a solid start to the campaign at home for La Paillade, with just one defeat suffered in six matches thus far and on the face of it Nancy have it all to do having claimed just one away success from their half dozen games on the road.
However, Montpellier’s top scorer Ryad Boudebouz may miss out due to an abductor tear and his omission would certainly leave the hosts a fair way shy of their best up front.
Hantz’ side should still find a way past Nancy but with the visitors also likely to get on the scoresheet (Montpellier have failed to keep a clean sheet in Ligue 1 since the opening game of the season), a score draw looks the likeliest outcome here at a perfectly fair 7/2, whilst 2-2 is the value call in the correct score market as things could get stretched in the final stages of the contest.
