St Mirren should make Premiership quality tell

It was not a strong end to last season for St Mirren, as they failed to win or keep a clean sheet in their final seven matches of 2022/23.

The Buddies also exited the Scottish League Cup at the group stage last term, although they will hope to produce a much better showing this time around and they should prove too strong for third-tier Montrose.

Leaky hosts tend to struggle at home

Montrose finished a respectable seventh in Scottish League One last season and they were one of the division’s entertainers, particularly towards the end of the campaign, as over 2.5 goals occurred in eight of their final nine matches.

However, five of those matches ended in defeat, while Stewart Petrie’s side also lost three of their final four home games of 2022/23, although they have scored in eight of their last nine at Links Park.

The hosts should certainly contribute to an entertaining game on Saturday, but they may ultimately come up short against St Mirren’s Premiership quality.
