Monza vs Fiorentina Predictions
- Both teams have scored in each of the last four games played by Fiorentina, including Thursday’s thrilling 3-2 Europa Conference League loss to Lech Poznan.
- Monza, meanwhile, have seen goals at both ends in four of their last six matches.
- Monza’s tally of 41 goals conceded is worse than that of all but six Serie A teams this term.
Viola keep European dreams alive – just
It’s been a remarkable campaign for Italian teams in Europe, with Europa Conference League semi-finalists Fiorentina one of five Serie A outfits still kicking in major continental competitions. The Viola, however, did things the hard way on Thursday, squandering a 4-1 first-leg lead before hitting back in a 6-4 aggregate victory over Lech Poznan. Less than 72 hours after that end-to-end contest, Fiorentina travel to Monza, and more goalmouth action looks likely.
Vincenzo Italiano’s men have been in outstanding form recently, going 14 games unbeaten – and winning 11 – before Thursday’s loss. However, following a run of five clean sheets in six games, Fiorentina have seen both teams net in four successive matches and Thursday’s wild game at the Stadio Artemio Franchi showcased both the best and the worst of the Viola. With little time to recover ahead of their next league outing, we don’t expect to see them tighten up.
Monza, meanwhile, claimed a surprise 1-0 win at Inter Milan in their last outing, a result which keeps them just two points adrift of the top half. Raffaele Palladino has done an exemplary job after taking over a team in the lower reaches of the table, and only high-flying Lazio have beaten Monza in their last six games (W2 D3). Last week’s shutout of the Nerazzurri, however, was the exception, rather than the rule. Monza’s games have tended to entertain, with four of their last six containing goals at both ends.
Both teams can net as Fiorentina ponder changes
With Fiorentina no doubt fatigued following Thursday’s European efforts and looking ahead to next week’s second leg of their Coppa Italia semi-final against Cremonese, it would not be a surprise to see Italiano make changes here.
With that in mind, punters are advised to neglect the result markets and back both teams to score, while a Monza side with three draws in their last four matches may be worth backing to claim a share of the spoils in an entertaining 2-2 draw.
